Jaqueline Lassiter, voted Most Eligible Bachelorette by The Vermilion in 2010, is now officially off the market and happily engaged to Max Hutson.
The UL alumnus acknowledged a mutual two-year attraction prior to meeting, but the couple did not personally know each other until Hutson found Lassiter's name in an issue of The Vermilion. It took Lassiter missing a day of class for Hutson to friend her on Facebook and write on her wall.
"I was too much of a wimp to talk to her," said Hutson. "Thank God for Facebook. I tried the whole [process of] meet people in bars, and that never worked. Find a pretty girl and it's worth the Facebook stalking."
The relationship progressed quickly. The couple had their first date at sushi restaurant Sakura in between classes and have since been together for one year and eight months. The two criminal justice graduates moved in together last May, and Hutson proposed on Jan. 28 before the couple went to dinner. Asked how she knew Hutson was "the one," Lassiter said she trusted her intuition.
"We both never dated people before seriously," explained Lassiter. "There was something different."
Hutson said he knew Lassiter was "the one" very early on as well. About two weeks into their relationship, Hutson went ring shopping with an engaged friend of Lassiter's. Men, take note.
"He did this by himself," beamed Lassiter, while exposing her sparkler.
This year, the couple's Valentine's Day plans will be a low-key evening at home. Long-term plans include saving up to buy a "forever house" a year after they get married, followed by kids two to three years after the wedding. The couple have set the date for Jan. 25, 2013 and the wedding will take place in Lassiter's church, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Lafayette.
For those curious, yes, the couple is listed as "Engaged" on Facebook.
