Robert Jones

On Sunday, Jan. 24, a University of Louisiana at Lafayette graduate, Robert Jones, passed away at the age of 23. 

Jones was a graduate student of UL Lafayette’s architecture department. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He leaves behind his parents, John David Jones and Leslie B Jones; his Uncle Charles J Bretz Jr; his Uncle Robert L Bretz and wife Whitney; Aunt Catharine C Bretz; Uncle John B Bretz and wife Charlotte; Aunt Camille B Friedmann and husband Michael. 

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and raised in Slidell, Jones played tennis, keyboard and was a self-taught guitar player. 

He was also an Eagle Scout, and he and his father traveled around the country to participate in Eagle Scout activities. According to his family, Jones was an independent, diligent, engaging and humorous young man. 

He will be buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana on Monday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. His memorial service will be held at Honaker Funeral Home. Jones was beloved by his fraternity brothers, fellow architecture students, friends and family. Losing a student, brother, son and friend of such dedication, light and engagement is an unfortunate event to report on. The Vermilion sends its condolences to Jones’ family, friends, teachers and classmates.
