The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Student Government Association held their weekly meeting on Monday, April 8.

Topics such as choosing a new mascot for the university, improving the lighting in the E.K. Long and Billeaud parking lots to improve safety and investigating the average cost to be a full-time student at UL Lafayette were discussed at the meeting.

The SGA decided to table the discussion about the university’s new mascot until further notice. They are planning to take a survey to gather a list of possible mascots before they discuss the topic further.

The resolution to request that the lighting in the E.K. Long and Billeaud parking lots passed.

The resolution to request the investigation of the average net-cost for a full time student also passed. The investigation is motivated by the increase in UL Lafayette’s tuition and fees in the past five years. According to Liberal Arts Senator Jonathan Adams, the Office of Institutional Research already did, but individual students cannot request them. Instead, a department, such as SGA, must request the information.

In addition, President of Dance Marathon Theresa Goldkamp spoke about the charity at the meeting. The organization is dedicated to raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. UL Lafayette’s first Dance Marathon event is set to take place in March 2020.
