JaKeenan Gant, the 6-foot-8-inch former Ragin’ Cajun, signed an Exhibit 10 contract on June 21, 2019 with the Indiana Pacers. The Exhibit 10 contract will allow Gant the opportunity to play for the Pacers G League affiliate and give him a chance to earn entrance onto the Pacers’ active roster.
Gant worked out and interviewed for seven teams during the NBA Pre-Draft process. The Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, and Toronto Raptors.
The NBA prospect is still improving on becoming more consistent with his shooting and taking the right shot instead of settling. He is also looking to ramp up his defensive efforts.
With these improvements, he was able to showcase this to the Pacers. Gant felt the Pacers work out went great, and his initial feeling was right.
“I had good energy and everything was perfect,” Gant said. “I believed in myself. I work on defense very much and I’m getting better sliding my feet and defending guards. Shooting threes is also important to stretch the floor and give another scoring option as a big man.”
The Former Louisiana player, averaged 20.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, and 1.3 assists last season. Gant is the 2-time Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He led the conference in rebounds, blocked shots, and double-doubles.
Gant, appreciative of his two seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns, feels his development with Louisiana and lessons learned along the way will help with his transition into the NBA.
