An armed student shows up at school and starts shooting at classmates and teachers, causing a massacre. This is what happened north of Bangkok, Thailand, today 7 August. The toll is still provisional: according to the latest information from the international media there are at least three teachers and three children killed. Several injured. It is not clear whether the alleged attacker, aged just 14, took his own life. Instead, a tragedy within the tragedy was discovered: before breaking into the school, the boy also killed his grandparents, having found bodies in the house.

The school shooting

The shooting occurred at a high school in the Bang Kruai district, north of Bangkok. A spokesperson for the Thai government reported that there were victims among both teachers and pupils. The alleged executioner is a student. Conflicting news spread about his fate: initially he was given up for dead, then the police specified that he was injured and was in hospital. He would have attempted suicide.

Grandparents murdered at home

Local authorities immediately started investigations. At the home of the alleged attacker they made a macabre discovery: the grandparents had been killed. The double homicide allegedly occurred shortly before the school shooting. According to the police, the 9 mm caliber pistol that the young man used belonged to his grandfather, who was a teacher.

“Planned Attack”

According to what emerged, it appears that the young man had “studied” a school shooting in the United States. Traces of his research in this sense were found on his computer. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul also spoke of a “planned attack”, announcing stricter controls on firearms.

The shooting occurred in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok. It is an administrative area with residential neighborhoods with shops, schools and public spaces.

This is the second armed attack in a school in Thailand in the short term, after the one last February in the south of the country in which a teacher died and a student was injured.
