Ita Airways is profitable for the first time since its birth in 2021. The airline born from the ashes of Alitalia closes 2025 with a net profit of 209 million euros and revenues of 3.2 billion euros, in line with last year, of which 2.8 billion euros deriving from the passenger traffic business (+2.7% compared to 2024).
Last year the budget closed with a deficit of 227 million. The positive result is also demonstrated by the growth of Ebitda, i.e. the indicator that measures earnings from operating activities net of external factors: in 2025 the gross operating margin stood at 404 million against 336.7 in 2024.

Today the Italian flag carrier is 59% controlled by the State (through the Ministry of Finance) and the remaining 41% by the Lufthansa Group which, however, based on the agreements, could reach up to 90% by 2026-2027.
“We close in profit for the first time”
“2025 marked a turning point for Ita Airways: we closed in profit for the first time, confirming that we have taken the right path” says CEO Joerg Eberhart. “It is the result of the commitment of the entire Company and the first tangible effects of the industrial collaboration with the Lufthansa Group.”
“However, we know – he warns – that to achieve fully sustainable profitability we must reduce the weight of the costs linked to fleet leasing; we are already working decisively on this”.
Ita Airways numbers in 2025
In 2025, Ita Airways operated over 123 thousand scheduled flights (-11% compared to 2024) and transported 16.2 million passengers (-8% compared to 2024). 10 new aircraft entered the fleet to reach, with the simultaneous exit of 3 old generation aircraft, a total of 106 aircraft at the end of the year, of which 70% were new generation, with an overall average age of 6.5 years.
