Mass shooting in Louisiana: 8 children killed. The youngest was one year old

The 8 children killed were aged between one and 14 years old during a shooting in Louisiana that occurred around 6 a.m. (local time) in Shreveport. This was reported by Police Chief Wayne Smith. At least ten people were involved: among them two women hit by bullets and a boy who was injured when he jumped from a roof in an attempt to escape.

The massacre occurred after a domestic dispute

The police intervened at 79 West Street after a domestic dispute was reported, the origin of which is not yet clear, nor the links between the people involved. According to Smith, some of the children shot were related to the suspect.

Police spokesman Christopher Bordelon provided details on the crime scene, which was very large, with more than one house involved. “There are three different scenes: The actual shooting happened in the 300 block of West Street,” he explained. “There is also another shooting related to this one on Harrison Street, and then there is an adjacent residence on West Street where one of the victims fled after the shooting.”

The perpetrator was killed by the police while fleeing

The perpetrator of the massacre apparently walked away quickly and attempted a carjacking to escape. “At that point, Shreveport police patrol officers began pursuing the vehicle,” the police spokesperson said, adding that the man was later killed in a gun battle with officers. Investigations are underway to reconstruct the dynamics and reasons for the incident.
