Romano Prodi rejects the decree which abolishes, for 2027 only, the tax for motorbikes and cars with less than 81kw. The measure, we understand, is not liked by members of the progressive camp who have branded Meloni’s idea as an “electoral tip” inadequate to deal with the difficulties of Italians dealing with high fuel costs.
And even the “professor”, for his part, doesn’t tell her. Indeed, it is among the most categorical. “People like the electoral stamp because they say they pay less taxes, but it’s a shame” explains Prodi in connection with PiazzaPulita, on La7. “It’s a bonus, it’s not given to those who need it but to those who have a small car, which they also have in the city centre. It’s like the ICI on Berlusconi’s house: it’s given to everyone, it’s an electoral bonus. But does a family need something else, does a 15 euro bonus (per month, ed.) fix their budget?” In short, the opinion of the founder of the Ulivo is without appeal.
The “Vannacci stamp” and “Europe is over” if Afd wins the elections
The discussion then shifts to alliances. Just as there is “the electoral stamp” for Meloni, “there is the Vannacci stamp”. “You keep him there until the elections, and then afterwards you form an alliance when you need it” says the Ulivo federation. “Vannacci is linked to Meloni, and Meloni to Vannacci, their bond is necessary when they want to win the elections and therefore indissoluble. Whether it is implemented before or after the elections will depend on how the soldiers and relationships go, but one is part of the other”.
Prodi also criticizes the prime minister on foreign policy. And he says he is very worried about the AfD’s advance in Germany. “Giorgia Meloni could have been the glue, the connecting force between France and Germany” and not cause the European Union to fail, “but today she is the brake, because she doesn’t want the end of unanimity, she plays at the lowest common multiple of Europe, she plays at low profile Europe”. The former prime minister does not rule out extreme scenarios: if the AfD wins in the next elections, he observes, “Europe is finished and we are all finished”.
