A tooth above the left eye, between the eyebrow and the eyelid. This is how a 16-year-old Indian boy lived for several months. It is an ectopic tooth, meaning it grows in an anomalous position compared to its natural location. The case was documented by the specialist journal Ophthalmology.
The case
For months the tooth was able to grow without the boy realizing it. The young man only noticed a strange swelling just above his left eye, but he didn’t feel any pain or have any vision problems. Until the 16-year-old noticed two strange bumps in that area: they were very white and sharp to the touch.
The young man therefore turned to the Aravind Eye Hospital, in India, to understand what was happening. There the specialists confirmed the existence of the solid structures and came to the conclusion: it was a fully formed canine.
The minor then underwent surgery to remove the developed tooth. The analyzes carried out made it possible to confirm that we were dealing with a case of an ectopic tooth. This condition is very rare and sees the formation of a tooth far from its seat in the dental arches.
