At least 30 dead and 18 injured. The already dramatic toll of the Russian attack which hit the city of Kramatorsk, on the Ukrainian eastern front, this morning, Thursday 8 October, has worsened. Initially the local authorities had spoken of 12 victims, but now the Donetsk region prosecutor’s office has provided a new update via Telegram.
The raid on Kramatorsk
According to what was announced by local authorities and the general prosecutor’s office, the raid by Moscow’s armed forces targeted a bus: “Around 10 am – we read in the message on social media – Russian troops bombed Kramatorsk with a multiple rocket launcher, hitting a bus. According to initial information, 12 people were killed and 14 others injured. The death toll and injuries could worsen”. Which happened in the following hours.
As reported by Ukrainska Pravda, citing the City Council and the head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Vadym Filashkin, the Russian carriers would have “targeted public transport directly while they were in regular service with passengers on board”.
An investigation has been launched
The post also shows images from the site of the attack, with the bus reduced to a fire-eaten carcass and debris scattered in the street along with the bodies. The local authorities have started a preliminary investigation: “The Donetsk prosecutor’s office – concludes the note – has started investigations at the site of the impact to document yet another war crime against the civilian population”. According to the Ukrainian media, from the first technical findings and the analysis of the fragments found in the rubble of the car, the attack was probably carried out using high-precision guided munitions of the D-30 SN type.
Zelensky: “Brutal attack”
On social media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also posted images of other raids that took place in the last few hours: “The search and rescue operation in Pryluky, following the Russian missile attack on the five-storey residential building, has now concluded. With great sadness, the death toll has risen to 22 people. Five of them were children.”
Zelensky also commented on the bus raid: “Even after such a brutal attack, the Russians continued to strike our regions. This morning, Russia hit a regular public transport stop in Kramatorsk with an aerial bomb. So far, 12 people are confirmed dead. In the evening, an attack on a residential building in Kiev left two victims. Furthermore, four more people were injured, including two children. In the Odessa region, a Russian drone attack damaged an animal shelter. The energy infrastructure was hit again. Overall, the Russian attacks caused destruction in ten regions.”
