It is a surreal story to say the least that took place in Sacapulas, a town in Guatemala, where a 15-year-old girl, Yuleidy, was left for dead and placed in a coffin, only to then wake up alone. The news was announced by the Sac TV broadcaster which interviewed the young woman and her family, while a video documenting the teenager’s awakening is circulating on social media.
The story
According to what has been reconstructed, the young woman felt ill on Saturday 10 October, in the early hours of the morning. Her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, took the car to take her to a health center, but after driving for about an hour, just before arriving in the municipality of San Pedro Jocopilas, he noticed that his daughter was not breathing and according to him “had no pulse”.
At that point, instead of going to the hospital, the man headed to a funeral home to get a coffin. Then he returned home where his relatives, now aware of what had happened, were already ready for the wake. To make a long story short, about eight hours after losing consciousness, and when she had already been in the (open) coffin for some time, the young woman woke up to the great dismay of her family.
The family claims that the teenager died and then came back to life, although the father admitted that his daughter was never taken to hospital and there is no medical certificate certifying her death. In short, the most plausible hypothesis is that the 15-year-old had simply fainted.
“I felt a strong pain in my heart”
The Guatemalan press does not report the cause of the illness. Interviewed by Sac TV, Yuleidy said she began to feel “a strong pain in my heart. I felt it heavy, it was as if I had fainted”. The teenager then thanked God for what he described as “a miracle”. “I am also grateful for the fact that my parents are still with me and that I did not leave them alone” added the young woman. “And I also thank you for the nice comments they wrote to me on social networks. I have no words.” Not us either.
