A day with friends that turns into tragedy. A 25-year-old girl, Windy Rahma Putri, originally from Pariaman, Indonesia, lost her life after slipping in the Harau waterfalls, in the Limapuluh Kota district. The young woman was dragged away from the watercourse under the eyes of the other girls who were with her, on the afternoon of Thursday 15 October, but her body was only found yesterday, Friday 16 October, about 70 meters from the accident site.

The tragedy, as documented by several videos shared on social media, occurred just as one of the friends was intent on immortalizing the moment: the 25-year-old lost her balance and ended up in the water and was carried away by the current. After the accident the site was temporarily closed, with searches continuing for almost 24 hours, until the tragic epilogue.
The tragic epilogue
The 25-year-old’s lifeless body was found at 10.45am on Friday (local time) and was handed over to her family to be taken to the funeral home. “We thank all members of the joint search and rescue team and the community – underlined the Padang Search and Rescue Office – who contributed to the search operations until the completion of the operation. This incident serves to remind the public to always give priority to safety when carrying out activities in natural tourist areas, especially near waterfalls which may present dangers”.
The victim’s family members, shocked by the pain, called for greater controls in the area, often visited by young people and tourists.
