"As a night babysitter I earn 8 thousand euros a month, the post-natal support is useful": Anna's story

From Monday to Friday he spends his nights next to the newborns, earning from 39 to 43 euros an hour, depending on the contract. To which must be added the compensation for additional tasks and any travel. In September 2026 she managed to put aside just over 8 thousand euros. It is the story of Anna Carpenter, an American night babysitter and doula who talked about her profession in an interview with People.

What does he do

Carpenter is 24 years old and lives in Houston (United States), but in 2027 he will move to San Diego. At the beginning she started as a night nanny, then she decided to get certified as a doula (a figure who supports the mother and family during the perinatal process) and as a newborn care specialist.

The shift usually starts at 9pm and ends at 10am the following day. In practice he does everything that parents of a newborn should do: manages feedings, changes diapers, prepares bottles. He also runs some errands around the house: doing laundry and washing dishes. It also gives mothers some basic advice on breastfeeding and reassures them. He works five days a week, but the contracts can also include weekends. Usually his figure is required for no more than four months.

Passion

The girl also approached this job because of her past. She grew up with nine siblings, became an aunt when she was only five years old and decided from adolescence that her future would be working with newborns. For ten years he practiced as a childcare assistant when his school commitments allowed it. But only later did she decide that night babysitting was the right role for her.

Carpenter says she decided to pursue this career for two reasons: “One, to make more people understand that what I do as a ‘night nanny’ is in effect a profession and that it can be very sustainable. And two, to let mothers and mothers-to-be know that postpartum support, in any form, is essential and that they deserve to heal with dignity.”

The earnings

Her job as a night babysitter can have very different earnings based on the requests and needs of the parents. In a video published on his personal account Carpenter explains why. Working four to six nights in September he earned $6,640. However, to these we must add the additional money (2,750 dollars) that she was given for following a family on holiday. The job as a nanny brought her $9,390n.

To this sum, however, we must add 451 dollars from his posts on TikTok. Then there is the income as a doula consultant, another 350 dollars. From his guide/book another 810 arrive. And from the connected Amazon links another 320. Finally, the sponsor contracts must be added: 6 thousand dollars. The total is 17,322 dollars, more than 15,400 euros in one month.
