British online bank Revolut said it was experiencing a “outage” in several of its services; a source close to the company attributed the problem to a Google Cloud failure. “We can confirm that all of our customers’ money and data are safe,” the online bank reports.
We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe. We’ve been working to fix the issue since it was identified this morning and apologize to anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused.

“Currently, several Google Cloud services are experiencing high error rates and intermittent network outages in the Europe-West2 region,” the tech giant said, adding: “Our engineering team is continuing to investigate the issue.”
The outages would have started around 8 in the morning (Italian time) and Google explains that it will be able to provide a response by next night (1 in the morning). Numerous British banks were also affected including Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and HSBC.

According to what we understand, the cause of the outages was an electrical fault that affected the infrastructure in the London region. Google has indicated that it expects a “partial” restoration of some of its services soon.
