The next Peugeots and Jeeps destined for international markets will also be born in China. Stellantis and Dongfeng accelerate the industrial partnership that aims to transform the Wuhan plant into a production hub for four new electrified models to be exported to world markets. The goal is to start production in 2027, taking advantage of the technologies developed by the Chinese manufacturer and the international commercial network of the automotive group led by Antonio Filosa.
Europe and South America are the two areas considered strategic
The project was at the center of the November 3 meeting in Wuhan between the general director of Dongfeng, Feng Changjun, and a delegation of Stellantis top management. According to what was reported by the Chinese manufacturer, Feng asked to accelerate the transition from planning to industrial production, ensuring the launch of the first model envisaged by the new partnership. The goal is to use Stellantis’ sales channels to rapidly increase the presence of the cars on international markets.
The meeting was attended by Tianshu The presence of the South American manager confirms the importance attributed to that geographical area in the expansion of the collaboration.
Before the meeting, the Stellantis delegation visited the Wuhan Intelligent and Connected Vehicle Test Center, where they examined Dongfeng’s technology programs and tested some models of the Chinese brands M-Hero, Voyah and eπ.
According to what was already planned in the industrial plan announced last May 2026, the agreement provides that the Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile joint venture will produce in Wuhan, starting from 2027, two new electric Peugeot models intended for both the Chinese market and export. Two electric Jeep off-road vehicles intended for global markets are also expected to be built at the same plant.
The operation involves a total investment of more than 8 billion yuan, approximately one billion euros, with an expected contribution from Stellantis of approximately 130 million euros.
After 34 years of industrial collaboration, the relationship between Stellantis and Dongfeng is preparing to change dimension. China no longer represents just a market in which to produce and sell cars, but becomes a base for developing vehicles for the rest of the world. The new cooperation model assigns a central role to Chinese technologies and production capacity, while Stellantis makes its brands and international commercial presence available.
It remains to be defined which of the new Peugeot and Jeep models will actually arrive in Europe and South America.
