The father of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry, has been arrested by the FBI. Thomas Markle, 82, is charged with possession of child pornography. Meghan has not had any relationship with her father Thomas for years.
The investigations
The news of the arrest was anticipated by the British newspaper Daily Mail. The authorities’ operation comes as the international criminal investigation against Prince Harry’s father-in-law is still ongoing.
According to the prosecution, the investigation began with the discovery of child pornography in two homes, in Mexico and the Philippines, where Thomas Markle spent a good part of his years after retirement. In a rented garage in Rosarito, Mexico, the FBI found 20 boxes containing books on pedophilia, magazines, images of children subjected to sexual abuse and photographs and negatives with “very young-looking” Asian female figures.
The 82-year-old, in a wheelchair after an operation that amputated his leg, had moved to Florida in the spring of 2026. As his last residence he had chosen an elderly care facility specialized in caring for people with dementia. The estimated tuition is $3,900 per month.
