CamporossoStorytells:
A Literary Review
to find out
the places of Tarvisio
A different weekend in upper Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Three days of books, stories, music and local flavors with CamporossoRacconta from August 23 to 25.
FROM Michela De Faveri
Friuli-Venezia Giulia is like a treasure chest, closed in a box of ancient and solid wood that as soon as you open it, envelops you in flashes and wonder.
It is a truly complete and surprising region that offers magnificent sea, very high mountains, hilly landscapes that embroider the territory, legendary castles, wonderful cities steeped in Central European atmospheres and many small wonderful villages.
One of these is Redfielda hamlet of the municipality of Tarvisio in the province of Udine. Geographically we are in the far north-east of Italy in a beautiful valley, the Canal Valleyat 820 meters above sea level between green valleys, emerald lakes and with the Julian Alps to act as a backdrop. But the really important thing is that arriving from Tarvisio, you inadvertently pass through the basin of Black Sea to that of the Mediterranean.
The origins of Camporosso date back to theRoman erawhen the area was crossed by the historic Julia Augusta Streetan important communication artery that connected Aquileia to Virunum (now in Austrian Carinthia). The system of Roman customs controls along the road to Virunum in fact it provided for the statio Bilachinensis (post station), which was found in 1910 right in Camporosso.
The place we now call Camporosso was also the site of a mithraeum (underground place dedicated to the religious cult of Mithras) whose traces are still visible and can be visited. There are still many archaeological finds that testify to the Roman origins of the town, mostly hosted in the permanent exhibition in the Antiquarium Museum.
From the seventeenth century onwards, after the fall of the Roman Empire and the loss of its customs function, Camporosso was inhabited by populations of Slavic origin and the area became the scene of several battles over the centuries.
The territory we are talking about is that of Tarvisio in upper Friuli Venezia Giulia almost at the state border, a place where three different cultures meet: the German, Slovenian and Austrian ones, which have coexisted peacefully here for hundreds of years, creating an atmosphere that echoes ancient imperial glories and culture.
In this context it finds its natural home CamporossoTellsa literary review now in its second edition, which will liven up the PAESE village from August 23rd to 25th.
The passion for reading and the mountains and the desire to discover exciting and particular stories have led the journalists Emily Menguzzato And Ilaria Romanzin to realize a dream: that of creating a literary review in a seemingly unusual place, where literature and nature can be combined, involving the territory and animating it with cultural content designed for all audiences.
CamporossoRacconta is a review in which local and national authors present their works in a context of open and free conversations, where it is easy and pleasant to immerse yourself in their stories accompanied by the harmony of the territory.
The theme of CamporossoRacconta 2024 is “The Unusual Journey”: a journey, as the organizers explain, “not only declined in its literal meaning, but also as a metaphor for individual growth, discovery, cultural and social development and conquest. The publication of a book is only the final act of a long gestational journey that we would like to emerge during conversations with authors, opportunities to establish relationships and comparisons”.
The structure of the Festival also includes a section for the Kids, the readers of tomorrow. Space for the language of the territory through tastings of typical products and interesting Musical Moments. The event conceived by Ilaria Romanzin and Emily Menguzzato is organized by Vicinia Agricultural Consortium from Camporosso.
