But the photo of the chained migrants has a logic

The reasons are right, the methods are wrong. There can hardly be a more effective way to summarize the approach taken by the new American administration than disruptive phenomenon migratory in progress. Because, if on the one hand it is sacrosanct that a sovereign state works in an attempt to limit illegal immigration by trying to regulate the flows, on the other hand we cannot ignore the fact that the control of migratory processes can equally occur effectively while using different precautions and communication strategies.

To be clearer: Donald Trump’s intention to intervene promptly to regulate incoming flows, so as to limit wild and indiscriminate immigrationand possibly taking into account the real needs of the labor market, is certainly understandable and, moreover, fully acceptable. The need, which Washington evidently feels, is much less acceptable exasperate the tone of the political debate at all costs and reduce a battle that we could easily define as ‘just’ into an infamous campaign of mass deportation.

This is in fact what a very large portion of world public opinion must have thought after having read the social content created in recent hours by the White House, which portrays a large patrol of handcuffed migrants, accompanied by the disturbing expression “The deportation flights have begun. Promise made, promise kept.”

A strong image, emphasized in turn by an even stronger message, probably designed for a dual purpose. First: demonstrate to the United States and the entire world that the new American administration is serious and keeps faith with the promises made during the election campaign. Second: to demonstrate that the anti-migrant crackdown is real and that no one can afford to break the law and illegally set foot on US territory. Nothing to object to the merits of the question, for goodness sake. Also because, not only is it right, but it is also a duty for a democratically elected government to respect programs and commitments previously undertaken with its voters and to work in an attempt to enforce the laws of the State.

However, the question concerning the method, or rather, the methods used by the presidential staff to plead the anti-immigration cause dear to the new administration is very different. There really was no other way to let the world know that, at least in the USA, the fun is really over when it comes to immigration? Was the dangerous path undertaken by Washington really the one and only one that could be followed? It’s hard to believe that this is actually the case. That of the US administration appears rather a sought-after, planned and desired movealthough probably not well thought out, given the unscrupulous use of ‘extreme’ content and language which could seriously end up proving to be a boomerang for the new president Donald Trump.

And, mind you, it is not simply a question of the need to please public opinion or not or to necessarily follow a line of behavior in line with the silly doctrine based on political correctness. At stake is the very credibility of an executivewhich, it is worth remembering, legitimately represents one of the most complete democracies on the planet, which has every right to adopt policies, even severe ones, to combat the phenomenon of illegal immigration, but which has, at the same time, the duty to don’t exaggerate the tone too much and do not exceed certain limits. Also because, as already explained previously, the boundary that separates a ‘just battle’ from an infamy that one must then complain about is truly very thin.
