The Board of Directors of CDP Equity has approved the entry into the capital of 2i Airportsthe main Italian airport network, through the acquisition of a share of 8.9%. 8% of the capital will be sold by Asterion Industrial Partners, a leading European infrastructure fund, and 0.9% by the Terzo Fondo managed by F2i, the main Italian infrastructure fund manager.
Upon completion of the operation, F2i will hold 50.1%, Asterion 41% and CDP Equity 8.9% of the capital of 2i Aeroporti.
The operation marks CDP Equity’s first direct entry into the airport sector with the aim of supporting an essential infrastructure for the country’s connectivity, competitiveness and territorial cohesion. 2i Aeroporti currently holds shares in the management companies of seven Italian airports: Milan Linate and Milan Malpensa, Naples, Turin, Trieste, Salerno and, through SEA, Bergamo Orio al Serio. In 2025 these airports handled 80 million passengers, equal to approximately 35% of the total passenger traffic in Italy, and approximately 800 thousand tons of goods, equal to approximately 65% of the total cargo in Italy.
The entry will also allow us to accompany investments in the development, digitalisation and decarbonisation of airports; support the consolidation of a still fragmented market, also through new acquisitions; enhance the presence in Southern Italy by contributing to growth of the sector.
“This operation – he declared Fabio BarchiesiCEO of CDP Equity – it is part of a broader strategic and industrial vision. After PayTech, Pharma and Security, we are making a direct entry into another key sector for the Italian economy. Our participation in 2i, with an active and long-term role, will allow us to develop a strategic infrastructure to strengthen territorial cohesion, also thanks to a significant presence in the South, improving connections between the different areas of the country and supporting their competitiveness. The objective, through an investment that provides solid profitability, is to contribute to the consolidation and growth of the sector, in view of the increase in traffic volumes expected in the coming years. CDPE will also make available the skills acquired in the infrastructure sector to support investments, accelerating the digitalisation and decarbonisation of airports, two central directions for the future of the national airport system”.
