Ceiling on petrol and diesel prices, after Eni it's IP's turn: how much you save on a full tank

And it was petrol. IP has also started to apply a cap on fuel prices. According to what we understand, Italiana Petroli’s price cap would be aligned with that of Eni: 1.99 euros per liter for petrol and 2.19 euros per liter for diesel. The ‘cut’, however, may not necessarily be homogeneous in all systems. The Socar group, owner of the brand, is in fact defining the best strategy for a progressive extension to the entire network. Since it is a dynamic and emergency ceiling, the measure remains subordinate to the trend of international tensions on the energy markets and to the economic protection of individual operators.

How much you can save

With the price cap the cost of fuel is reduced by approximately 17 cents per liter compared to average price lists. In short, it means saving around 8.50 euros on an average 50-litre tank. However, this is an average value, given that the starting price can vary depending on the distributors and market conditions. Eni can count on 3,847 distributors spread across the national territory, which on average sell around 600 million liters of fuel every month. IP instead has around 4,500 points of sale.

As far as we know, hundreds of IP distributors have joined, including on various motorways. At the moment, however, the situation is patchy: in many pumps the prices displayed are still in line with those of recent days.

The cost of petrol and diesel today, on average

Meanwhile, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Business, along the national road network the average price in self-service mode stands at 2.152 euros per liter for green (slightly down from 2.159 yesterday) and 2.369 euros per liter for diesel (compared to 2.377 the previous day). The price refers to the average of all distributors. And therefore it also takes into account the companies that have left their rates unchanged.
