Even more expensive cigarettes from today: the new prices of "blondes" and tobacco

Bad surprise for smokers: from today, February 13, new increases for cigarettes and tobacco will start. This is the second wave of price increases after last month. As happened in January, prices increased by an average of thirty cents per package.

The first tranche of increases involved 86 brands of cigarettes and 22 of shredded cigarettes. This second wave affects all producers. To give an example, a pack (hard, the soft one costs less) of Camel light now costs 6.30 euros and no longer 6. On the front of chopped tobacco for rolling, the new list items include products such as American Spirit Original Blue and Yellow 30 grams, various Winston Red, Blue and Volume Tobacco, Camel Yellow, Blue and Essential, Old Holborn and Savage Blond, with prices per pack that increase in line between the different weights. The Customs and Monopolies Agency has updated the price lists.

Who decides

The increase in the price of cigarettes is the result of the economic measure, which increased the excise duty on manufactured tobacco. In 2026 alone, around 900 million more will arrive at the Treasury.

The maneuver provides for a progressive increase in the years 2026-2028 of the fixed minimum amount of excise duties on cigarettes, cigarillos and cut tobacco, and redetermines the coefficients for calculating the excise duty on heated tobacco products. Specifically, “the excise duty on manufactured tobacco goes from 29.50 euros per 1,000 cigarettes in 2025 to 32 euros in 2026, and then rises to 35.50 euros in 2027 and 38.50 euros in 2028. The minimum amount of excise duty on cigarillos rises from 37 to 47 euros per conventional kilogram for the year 2026, at 49 euros for the year 2027 and, starting from the year 2028 at 51 euros per conventional kilogram”.
