The eighth test of the Spacex starship ended during the night, the spacecraft designed by the Elon Musk company for future trips to the Moon and Mars. The launch, also on this occasion, ended with a partial success only: the Super Heavy rocket managed to return correctly to the base, but its capsule has released in flight and exploded. The seventh test was also finished with an explosion, which always took place in the phases following take -off. The accident caused a shower of debris that reached Philadelphia and caused delays in flights in some US states.
The launch of Starship, the capsule explodes
After five minutes the rocket correctly separated from the capsule and then returned to the ground, where he hooked to the launch tower, called Mechazilla, from which he started just under seven minutes earlier. The capsule engines instead went before expected and it was no longer possible to maintain control of the structure. “The vehicle has undergone quick disassembly disassembly and the contact was lost – reads a post on X -.

What happened: Spacex’s explanation
What went wrong in the starship test? Spacex on its website has published a detailed report in which the explosion of the capsule was explained: “Before the end of the ascension phase, an energy problem in the back of the Starship caused the loss of several raptor engines. This in turn led to a loss of control of the structure and, ultimately, to a loss of communications with the starship. The final contact with the Starship took place about 9 minutes. and 30 seconds after take -off “.
“The Starship – reads again – has flown into a launching corridor designated to safeguard the public both on the ground, in the water and in the air. Following the anomaly, the Spacex teams immediately started coordination with the FAA, the Ato (the body for the control of air traffic) and other security officials to implement the emergency responses planned in advance”. The company also stressed that there are no “toxic materials present in the debris and no significant impacts on marine species or on the quality of the water will be expected”.
During Starship’s Ascent Burn, The Vehicle Experience in Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly and Contact was lost. Our Team Immediately Began Coordination with Safety Officials to Implement Pre-Planned Contincy Responses.

Then the notice to the population: “If you think you have identified a piece of debris, contact the local authorities or the Spacex Debris Hotline”. Space X concludes with optimism ensuring that in -depth checks will be made on what happened. “With a test like this, success derives from what we learn and today’s flight will help us improve the reliability of Starship. We will conduct an in -depth investigation, in coordination with the FAA, and we will implement corrective actions to bring improvements to future Starship flight tests”.

The rain of debris and air traffic problems
Meanwhile, the fall of the capsule debris is causing some inconvenience to US air traffic. The Federal Aviation Administration has blocked flights to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and Orlando airports for “range of space debris” up to 20 local time. The US Agency of the Transport Department that regulates air traffic has also prevented flights from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood international airport and Miami international airport. The flights departing from those airports have accumulated a delay on average by 30 and 45 minutes respectively.
