For the first time a white shark has been filmed in the Mediterranean

Although sporadic sightings of great white sharks have been reported in the past, video footage of this magnificent creature represents a first in the region. Volunteer technical diver Derk Remmer videotaped the adult great white shark during a mission with Ghost diving and Healthy seas to investigate and remove abandoned fishing nets on a shipwreck in the Strait of Sicily. The mission is part of the group’s effort to remove ghost nets that trap and kill marine animals. The organizations also collaborate with other scientists who monitor threatened shark populations.
