French Elections, Sensational Runoff Results: Here Are the Exit Polls

There France went back to the polls and between 6 and 8 pm the polling stations closed for the second round. The government of the country was at stake, with the dream of Jordan Bardella And Marine The Pen to bring the country beyond the Alps “to the right” for the first time. On the other side, the somewhat motley union between the Macronians and the Popular Front, which have given rise to record withdrawals throughout France.

Record turnout, at 5 pm, stood at 59.71%. There are 501 seats to be assigned out of a total of 577. To obtain an absolute majority, at least 289 seats must be won. The result from the first exit polls is sensational: while a Rassemblement National was expected to be in the lead, in the end the withdrawals worked: the New Popular Front should ultimately be the first lineup, followed by the Macronians and only in third place the Le Penists.

Here are the exit polls and live results:

  • The New Popular Front: 172-192 seats
  • Ensemble: 150-170 seats
  • The National Rally (Rn): between 132-152 seats
  • Republicans: 57-67 seats
  • Left: 13-16 seats
  • Center: 6-8 seats
  • Others: 8-11 seats

Within the New Popular Front, the seats would be distributed as follows: La France Insoumise would get between 68 and 74 seats, the Socialist Party between 63 and 69 seats, the Ecologists between 32 and 36 seats. Within Macron’s Ensemble grouping, on the other hand: Renaissance would get between 95 and 105 seats, MoDem between 31 and 37 and Horizons between 24 and 28. Within the right-wing bloc: Rn would have 120-136 seats, Eric Ciotti 12-16 seats.

The first to speak is Mélenchon who immediately attacks Macron, with whom – however – he should find an agreement to allow the Popular Front to govern: “We have obtained a result that they thought was impossible – he said – The will of the people must be rigorously respected. No agreement would be acceptable. The defeat of the President of the Republic and his coalition is clearly confirmed. The President must bow and accept his defeat.”
