New increases at the petrol pump. And as the saying goes: it rains when it wets. Based on the latest data collected by the Observatory on fuel prices of the Ministry of Business, the average price of petrol in self-service mode today stands at 2.053 euros per litre, while diesel has skyrocketed to 2.165 euros. On the motorway network, however, the average self-service price is 2.139 euros/l for petrol and 2.238 euros/l for diesel.
How much does a full tank cost today
At current prices the price of a 50 liter tank, which has now become our benchmark, stands at 102.65 euros for petrol and 108.25 for diesel. On the ordinary network. On the motorway the cost rises further:
- Petrol: 106.95 euros (2,139 x 50)
- Diesel: 111.90 euros (2,238 x 50)
The near record of petrol and the government’s intentions
The 17 cent discount on diesel just extended by the government remains valid until September 10th. But given the prices it has very little impact on the final price. Meanwhile, the cost of a barrel of oil still remains above 95 dollars, about 30 more than in the period before the Hormuz crisis. The majority seems intent not to extend the excise duty cut again, but to provide targeted aid to employees, hauliers and disadvantaged categories. Meanwhile, Codacons points out that on the motorway, petrol has exceeded the second highest average price in Italian history, approaching the absolute record of 2.184 euros per litre.
