Gianpiero Strisciuglio is the new CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato

Gianpiero Strisciuglio is the new CEO and general manager of Ferrovie dello Stato. The appointment came during the first meeting of the new board of directors, installed by the shareholders’ meeting for the three-year period 2026-2028. Tommaso Tanzilli was confirmed as president. Strisciuglio replaces Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, who resigned from the leadership of the group on 30 June. The new CEO has been granted delegations and powers in continuity with those of the previous management, while Tanzilli maintains responsibilities for internal control and institutional representation.

Who is Gianpiero Strisciuglio

Graduated with honors in Transport Engineering at the Polytechnic of Bari, Strisciuglio subsequently obtained a second level master’s degree at the Parthenope University of Naples. He has been registered in the Register of Engineers since 2001. His career has developed almost entirely within the FS group, where he has held positions in the main sectors of rail transport: from infrastructure to passenger services, up to logistics.

Since March 2025 he has led Trenitalia as CEO and general manager, taking over from Luigi Corradi. During his tenure he focused on fleet renewal and international expansion of high-speed rail. Among the main projects is the entry into service of the new generation Frecciarossa 1000: an investment of more than 1.3 billion euros for 46 trains, including those envisaged by the contractual option.

Before moving to Trenitalia, Strisciuglio had been CEO and general manager of the Italian railway network, from May 2023 to March 2025. In that phase he followed in particular the interventions for the modernization of the network included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Between April 2022 and May 2023 he led Mercitalia Logistics, now FS Logistix. In the same company he had held the position of head of strategy, industrial planning, innovation and sustainability since 2018.

Previously he was responsible for Trenitalia’s Long Haul Passenger Division and, in RFI, commercial and operations director and responsible for service planning and development. He was also extraordinary commissioner for the completion of the Rome railway ring. He holds the presidency of Agens, the transport and services association belonging to Confindustria, and of the College of Italian Railway Engineers. He is also vice president of Federturismo Confindustria.

The new board of directors of Ferrovie dello Stato

In addition to president Tommaso Tanzilli and Strisciuglio, the new board of directors of Ferrovie dello Stato is made up of Pietro Bracco, Franco Fenoglio, Silvia Marzot, Loredana Ricciotti and Daniela Rota. The board will remain in office for the three-year period 2026-2028.

With the appointment of Strisciuglio, the government therefore entrusts the leadership of the main Italian transport group to a manager who grew up entirely within the company and with direct experience in the three major strategic areas of Ferrovie dello Stato: network, passenger transport and logistics.
