Almost five centuries after its construction, the August 28, 2024 the ceiling that Giorgio Vasari painted for Palazzo Corner Spinelli in Venice will be unveiled to the public, finally completely recomposed.

The panels that made up the coffered ceiling were dispersed starting from the end of the eighteenth century, but in the last forty years the State has committed to acquire them and return them to Venice. The eight panels, today all collected at the Gallerie dell’Accademia, reassembled together for the first time, will become part of the permanent exhibition of the museum in a room dedicated to them.

The subject of the five main panels are the Allegories of the Virtueswith the center CharityWhile Wedding ring, Hope, Justice And Patience occupy the side compartments. In the corners are depicted three Cherubs with tablesthe fourth is unfortunately lost.

The works include the Suicide of Judasformerly in the Casa Vasari Museum in Arezzo, from where it came to the Galleries after it was recognized as belonging to the Corner Spinelli ceiling. The work is in fact a fragment cut of theAllegory of Hopepurchased in 2017.

INAUGURATION

The inauguration of the hall will take place Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the hours 17.00with guided tours curated by restorers and art historians of the Galleries.

To the 7.30pm a will take place concert of Renaissance music performed by the instrumental and vocal ensemble of the ancient music department of the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Venice.
