A 31-year-old man has been arrested by Swiss police after he stabbed at least three people at Winterthur train station in the canton of Zurich. According to witnesses, the attacker, a Swiss citizen, shouted “Allah Akbar (God is the greatest, in Arabic)”.
The attacks
It all happened around 8.30am, as reported by local newspapers 20 minutes And Blick. At the beginning there was talk of only one person injured, precisely while waiting for the train along platform 3. Then the toll of the attack worsened: there were three citizens affected in total. They are all Swiss and are 28, 43 and 52 years old. One person was seriously injured and two others suffered medium injuries: all were transferred to hospital.
The authorities immediately rushed to the scene. The Zurich cantonal police, the Winterthur city police and the FFS transport police arrived, as well as medical workers. Some eyewitnesses said that the attacker had a knife in his hand.
There is also a video, released on the web, which shows dozens of people running away from the train station while the alleged attacker runs away in front of a school group. An investigation is underway to understand the reasons behind the attack.
