A 45-year-old man has been arrested in London after he attempted to kill two people in the Jewish neighborhood of Golders Green. The attacker first tried to stab the victims to death, a person in his seventies and another in his thirties, and then lashed out at the police officers who rushed to the scene.
The arrest
The alarm was raised around the late morning of April 29 along Golders Green road: “A man was seen running armed with a knife while attempting to attack members of the Jewish community.” Some videos have circulated online depicting the suspect attacking a person at a bus stop.
“Local officers attended the scene, together with the London Ambulance Service. The suspect also attempted to stab police officers and was tasered before being arrested. No officers were injured,” the authorities wrote in a statement.
“Two men, one around 70 years old and the other around 30, were treated on site for stab wounds. They were transported to hospital and their conditions are stable”, concludes the note. The episode comes after a series of attacks on London’s Jewish community.
Starmer: ‘It’s absolutely horrifying’
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack “absolutely horrifying.” On social media the politician wrote that “attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on the United Kingdom”. The Minister of the Interior, Shabana Mahmood, spoke of an “abominable” episode.
