After the presentation a few days ago, the time has come for our test of the new Huawei Watch GT 7. Smartwatch that combines advanced health and fitness features with a trendy design, with autonomy of up to 21 days and integrated contactless payments.
Let us therefore analyze in detail all the features and performances of the new Huawei Watch GT 7.
Design and packaging
The Watch GT 7 presents itself with a decidedly modern and refined design. Smartwatch available in different colors: yellow, blue, black for the sporty 46 mm variant and light blue, pink and pearl gray for the more elegant 41 mm version. The object of our test is the flashy 46 mm version with a double yellow and black color and angular lines typical of the GT series.
Smartwatch with stainless steel case and fiber-reinforced composite back panel. Black back where we find the sensors for monitoring our health, microphone and speaker for calls and notifications. The front is, however, protected by a glass panel in aluminum and lithium silicate.
At the top right we find the crown which is clickable and useful for power and navigation within the user interface. A physical button customizable by the user has been inserted at the bottom right.
We continue our analysis with the proprietary fluoroelastomer strap, equipped with the EasyCross system: without a loop, the free end slides towards the inside of the bracelet, preventing accidental hooking with technical clothing or sports equipment.
Model with water and dust resistant case (IP69 certification) and immersion up to 5 Atm. Finally, the package that includes the magnetic charger with USB-A port.

Operating system, user interface and health monitoring

On board the GT 7 we find the proprietary HarmonyOs operating system in the most recent version 6.1. Software in Italian, but with some voices in English, and a classic interface.
In fact, a swipe from top to bottom allows quick access to the settings with the possibility of accessing functions such as Do Not Disturb mode, managing the brightness (including automatic) of the display and battery monitoring. A swipe upwards allows access to notifications with the ability on Android to reply to messages, but not to Google emails, with emoji, customizable preset text and touch keyboard. Notifications that unfortunately remain unread on the smartphone even if they were displayed on the watch. A swipe to the right allows quick access to the most used apps and the simple voice assistant, while a swipe to the left allows quick access to numerous functions divided into various tabs that can be managed by the user: rings for monitoring physical activity (steps, distance, calories, etc.), emotion and stress monitoring, a tab that contains various information such as heart rate, a tab dedicated to weather, agenda, calls, music (also memorized in the smartwatch), training section and moon phases.

All apps are, however, accessible by pressing the crown. Among the numerous applications available we remember those for monitoring the cardiovascular system using Huawei Truesense technology: heart rate also with HRV and 24/7, arrhythmia analysis (risk of atrial fibrillation) and oxygen level in the blood. We continue with skin temperature, menstrual cycle and the Health Insights app which offers a complete health analysis.

This integrates data from various aspects (emotions, training, well-being and sleep quality) and uses advanced algorithms to identify the main trends. The app helps users understand changes in their physical condition, receive personalized reminders and recommendations, and develop healthier habits. Updated Health Insights feature that now includes a comprehensive morning briefing and a personalized physical readiness score that summarizes data related to sleep quality, heart rate variability, emotional state and calories burned.

By classifying daily recovery into five distinct levels, it provides an intuitive, fitness-based snapshot each morning, helping users plan their day.
It also completes the sleep monitoring app with numerous parameters such as REM phase and much more.
We also remember the app for calls and contacts, the breathing exercises for stress reduction and the numerous watchfaces also with animations and videos, which can be downloaded via the dedicated app which we will analyze later.
Additional applications can be downloaded via smartphone using the App gallery. It is a small store without famous apps, but with useful software that allows, for example, the management of Spotify, Google calendar events and more directly from the smartwatch. For navigation functions we recommend the Petal maps app.
Sport

Complete the section dedicated to training with over 110 supported sports modes and interesting new features dedicated to skiing and cycling. Users can download maps for over 3,000 ski areas worldwide. This function serves as a useful guide for beginners, clearly indicating the difficulty of the routes and preventing inadvertent deviations on challenging slopes. The smartwatch records complete descent data and itineraries. It also introduces the industry’s first curve detection feature, which counts short and medium-long curves and calculates their radius. Furthermore, the detection of G-Force arrives.
In outdoor cycling mode, before a ride, the smartwatch generates a detailed profile of upcoming climbs, giving cyclists the information they need to manage their endurance. During the climb, it transmits the slope and remaining distance in real time. If a cyclist approaches a sharp curve at excessive speed, the smartwatch proactively provides alerts to improve safety. After your run, the Workout Analysis feature provides precise training metrics and detailed analysis.
The other sports are also very well looked after with a lot of information provided. For example, in running we find cadence, vertical oscillation, ground contact time, balance and much more.

Huawei Watch Gt 7 also hosts the Mini-Workout mode, an innovative way to stay active, ideal especially for those with little time available. No tools or dedicated spaces are required. Thanks to a cute companion, an interactive panda on the dial, you can quickly perform short exercise sessions, from 30 seconds to several minutes.
We also mention support for offline maps, integrated training, warming and stretching plans and fall detection. There is also automatic recognition of running, walking and cycling outdoors.
App for smartphones

The Watch GT 7 is accompanied by the Huawei Health application for Android and iOS mobile devices, which can be downloaded via the QR displayed when the smartwatch is first started.
Application, in Italian, easy to use and very feature-rich, which allows you to view in detail all the data collected by the smartwatch, also accompanied by useful explanations on the information provided and clear graphs.
There is also the possibility of starting a workout directly from the smartphone, even accompanied by voice messages, and a rich section dedicated to smartwatch settings with the possibility of downloading new dials (most of them for a fee).
Finally, the subscription section of the app (59 euros per year) which includes courses with video and audio, training plans and more.
Huawei Watch GT 7 supports data synchronization with Strava. However, it is not possible to install the native Strava application directly on the watch.
User experience and price

Our opinion on the Watch GT 7 is, in general, positive. It is, in fact, a refined and resistant smartwatch with advanced features. Watch that boasts very high battery life: up to 21 days of light use and up to 7 days with Always On Display active.

Excellent rating on the screen, high definition, bright and with natural colours. Positive opinion also on performance, with software that is always fast and responsive. The GPS is excellent with precise route tracking even through narrow streets and with tall buildings on the sides. The vibration and speakerphone don’t disappoint. The functions dedicated to monitoring our health and sleep are rich and precise, with an excellent section dedicated to physical exercise.

Too bad for the absence of the ECG, for the limited interaction with smartphone notifications and for a store that is not very rich in apps. We also point out the absence of advanced connectivity such as WiFi and eSim.
The main difference between the Huawei Watch GT 7 and the Pro variant lies in the quality of the premium materials, the presence of the ECG sensor and some sports modes dedicated to the more advanced model.
