After reports from thousands of users, Apple immediately took action: with the introduction of iOS 17.5 there were many new features and improvements but also an annoying bug in the system which caused dozens of photo, inside the Album, definitively deleted long before. Some users have even complained about the reintroduction of some messages vowels in the most famous messaging apps: for this reason, a new update to eliminate this and other problems.
The 17.5.1 update
Available since the last few hours for all users who have an Apple device (iPhone or iPad), those who go into Settings, under the Software update heading, will find out when it is anticipated. “This update includes important problem solving and corrects a rare error so photos where database corruption occurred could reappear in the Photos library even if they had been deleted“. Some experts explain that such a close update when it happened, just a few days before, an important one like 17.5 is unprecedented. Let us remember that all photos, as well as videos, when deleted do not disappear immediately but end up in a 'special folder called “Recently Deleted” lasting 30 days before disappearing, forever, from devices and clouds. In this way, each user has time to think again and possibly recover what was previously deleted while respecting the deadline.
Problems with privacy
The company based in Cupertino, California, immediately fixed the problem not so much because of the “annoyance” that users might feel but to avoid problems of privacy and with damage to the database which, in some cases, occurred in the transition from iOS 17.4 to 17.5 as the developers explained.
As the initial wording states, in the meantime other problems that occurred with iOS 17.5 have also been resolved, including the activation of iMessages. “Some iPhone users have found the message stuck on 'waiting for activation' after updating to the latest software.”. Other users on Reddit had instead complained about problems with the voice assistant Siri explaining that it was unable to play playlists from the Music app.
Among other interventions by the developers, a problem relating to the software should also have been resolved redirects of downloads.
“This redirects downloads normally saved on your device to iCloud Drive“, the experts point out.
