She wanted to go up and down the Matterhorn in less than five hours and was training for this, but Kalie McCrystal has been missing on the Matterhorn since September 1st. The Canadian athlete, who has completed numerous mountain running competitions (trail running), was in Italy for yet another record when she disappeared. The Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue Service is mobilized for the searches.
“She was dressed in white – explain the rescuers – and this makes it even more difficult to locate her on the mountain. We made multiple rotations with the helicopter. We also used the Recco antenna and tried to connect to her phone, but without positive results”.
The photos on the Matterhorn, then nothing
“I’m in Cervinia, Italy – wrote Kalie McCrystal on social media on August 7 – to prepare for my big goal of the season: climbing and descending the Matterhorn in less than 5 hours via the Lion’s Ridge. I have a few days available for the conditions to improve and my lungs, accustomed to sea level, to adapt, so I haven’t lost hope and I’m not giving up yet. If you wanted to cross your fingers for me, though, it would be fantastic.”
With its 4,478 meters, the Matterhorn is the third highest mountain in Italy. It is located in the Pennine Alps, exactly along the political border between Italy (Valle d’Aosta) and Switzerland (Canton Valais). It is one of the favorite destinations for those who practice mountain climbing and running.
