The investment in 5G private networks can increase the operational efficiency of Italian companies up to 30%, with a return to investments (ROI) greater than 100% less than five years. Between 2025 and 2030, this technology will be estimated to generate a direct benefit on the GDP between 3.7 and 4.3 billion euros per year, for a total value of over 24 billion euros. This is what emerges from the report “5G for a modern and sustainable industry”, created by the TIM Study Center in collaboration with Netconsulting Cube and Bi-Rex. The 5G, if interconnected to other technologies such as cloud, robotics, artificial intelligence and virtual reality, amplifies the benefits with a real acceleration effect. Considering also this indirect impact, the contribution to GDP could reach up to 16.8 billion in 2030, with a cumulative value of 61 billion euros in the period.

“The 5G is a key accelerator for the innovation of the manufacturing industry. Integrated with technologies such as IoT, Ai, Cloud, Edge Computing and Cybersecurity, qualify for advanced houses such as real -time monitoring, predictive maintenance and collaborative robotics, transforming the plants into real Smart Factors, more efficient and sustainable” – said Antonio Morabito, Business Development and Marketing Manager of Tim Enterprise. “As Tim Enterprise we provide avant -garde technologies and strategic assets to accompany the digitization of companies and PAs, with the utmost attention to data security, thanks also to our data center network in Italy. Our ICT platform – the most complete of the country – also evolves through collaborations with national competitive centers, accelerating the development of the best solutions to deal with the challenges of digital transformation in processes in processes in processes in processes in processes productive “.
The concrete examples of innovation
At Bologna Bi-Rex, Tim Enterprise presented the new advanced solutions for the manufacturing sector based on 5G, inaugurating a new era of wireless smart factory, characterized by automation, efficiency and sustainability. During the “5G Industrial Experience Hub” event, organized by Tim Enterprise in collaboration with Bi-Rex Competence Center and Qualcomm Technologies, some cases of use of 5G solutions were presented. The Bi-Rex Competence Center, with its totally digitized manufacturing pilot line, represents an opportunity for businesses, from SMEs to large companies, to test new technologies before investing.
“We are proud to have organized a new opportunity for comparison on 5G technology together with Tim Enterprise” – said Stefano Cattorini, general manager of Bi -Rex. “Today we have presented the characteristics and advantages deriving from the use of a 5G private network, a formidable development driver for the entire national industrial fabric, showing use cases made by our team, within the pilot line, in its different industrial applications. All this confirms how our competence center is able to make available to companies the technological know-how essential to stimulate innovation processes and increase”.
Among the innovations presented, the “TIM Multi Robot Orchestrator” software platform stands out, which allows you to manage different types of robots, both terrestrial and drones, integrating cloud services for the analysis of video flows with artificial intelligence. This technology improves performance and safety in the logistics and production sectors.
Another significant example is the Tim Enterprise Extended Reality solution, which allows technicians to access real -time information actually increased directly from their smartphones, receiving interactive and contextualized instructions. The use of virtual reality viewers also allows the simulation of operating scenarios in immersive environments, optimizing training processes and improving the safety of operators.
Finally, the event also saw an important update on the partnership between TIM and Ducati, with the introduction of 5G connectivity on the NTB-01 robot, developed by Ducati Corse and Lenovo for the analysis of the race circuits. The robot now integrates a GPS-RTK location solution, developed by Tim Enterprise in collaboration with Way, which guarantees a precision of centimetric positioning.
The massive adoption of 5G in the manufacturing sector will not only bring a positive impact on the Italian economy, but will also contribute to the
Environmental sustainability: between 2025 and 2030, a reduction in emissions of over 33 million tons of equivalent CO2 and a saving of 450 million euros on the costs of disposal of industrial waste is estimated.
