During a parliamentary session in Kosovo, opposition MP Time Kadrijaj threw eggs at interim Prime Minister Albin Kurti. The session had been called to constitute the Parliament following the early elections of 7 June. The incident occurred after Kurti asked the Assembly Speaker for additional time to negotiate a political agreement with the opposition parties, a request which was approved.
Unperturbed, Kurti said that if being pelted with eggs was the price he had to pay for dialogue, he was “happy to pay it.” However, the session was suspended. The prime minister’s party, Vetevendosje, a centre-left nationalist formation, came first in the last parliamentary elections, held in June, obtaining a sufficient majority to govern. To elect a new president, Kurti now needs a two-thirds majority, which forces him to negotiate with opposition parties, so far without success. Since the constitutional deadline for the formation of the Parliament expired yesterday, the political situation in Kosovo has once again become uncertain.
