Today, Apple announced the new Mac Studio, featuring the M5 Max chip and the all-new M5 Ultra, marking a huge leap forward in AI performance and enabling even faster graphics for the most demanding professional workflows, all in its signature compact design that fits easily on any desktop.

Now with M5 Max and M5 Ultra, Apple’s most powerful chips ever, the new Mac Studio offers the user extremely high levels of AI performance. M5 Max promises up to 3.9 times faster AI performance than the previous generation, speeding up prompt processing. With M5 Ultra, Mac Studio achieves peak AI computing performance up to 4.3 times faster than its M3 Ultra model, and 9.8 times faster than its predecessor with M1 Ultra. Up to 512GB of unified memory and 1.2TBps of memory bandwidth, 50% more than the previous model, allow you to run huge models entirely in Mac Studio with maximum privacy, without worrying about the number of tokens or increasing cloud costs.
Mac Studio with M5 Max: lots of speed and power for professional workflows
Made for the user who wants powerful performance in a compact design, Mac Studio with M5 Max is ideal for those involved in music, photography, software engineering and design with 3D models and real-time motion graphics. Mac Studio with M5 Max offers superior performance thanks to an 18-core CPU with 6 super cores and 12 performance cores, so developers can compile code even faster. The up to 40-core GPU with Neural Accelerator is now up to 50% faster than the previous generation, turbocharging the most demanding graphics tasks, such as game development with higher frame rates and more complex scene geometry.
The new Mac Studio also supports third-generation hardware-accelerated ray tracing, enabling faster, more realistic lighting and reflections in professional design, 3D and VFX workflows.
Additionally, its powerful media engine supports hardware acceleration for H.264, Hevc, ProRes and AV1 codecs, allowing filmmakers to apply color grading to uncompressed 8K footage and process multiple simultaneous video streams with ease.
Mac Studio with the new M5 Ultra chip: a powerhouse for the most demanding tasks
The new Mac Studio, with the new Apple M5 Ultra chip, has up to a 36-core CPU with 12 super cores and 24 performance cores and offers up to 1.3 times greater multi-threaded performance than the M3 Ultra. The up to 80-core GPU, the most powerful ever seen on an Apple chip, brings Neural Accelerators to the Ultra chip for the first time, which enable peak AI computing performance up to 4.3 times greater than M3 Ultra. Graphics are up to 1.8x faster than the previous generation, resulting in smoother real-time 3D rendering.
With 512GB of unified memory and 1.2TBps of memory bandwidth, AI coding agents work much faster and image generation tools can process the result in an instant.
Additionally, with double the video encoding and decoding blocks of the M5 Max, the M5 Ultra’s media engine allows the professional user to simultaneously play up to 33 ProRes 422 video streams at 8K and 30 fps.
Ultra-fast storage and pro connectivity
The new Mac Studio also offers faster storage and a full range of connectivity options. Storage is up to twice as fast, thanks to the next-generation SSD architecture based on PCIe Gen 6.
Thunderbolt 5 ports offer up to 120 Gbps of bandwidth, allowing you to connect high-performance peripherals, external monitors, PCIe expansion chassis and storage drives to make the most of their blazing speeds. The Apple-designed N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 to Mac Studio for the first time.
The new Mac Studio supports up to eight external monitors or up to four Studio Display XDRs at full 5K resolution at 120Hz.
Prices and availability
The new Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra can be ordered now. Deliveries will begin on September 22nd. Mac Studio with 512GB of unified memory will be available at the end of October.
