The first to (re)flip was Motorola, when it reproduced the iconic format of the 90s on smartphones. Model after model we have now arrived at the razr 50 series with two new models with large and innovative external displays: the Motorola razr 50 ultra which has a 4.0 inch screen (the largest seen so far on foldable clamshell products), and the razr 50, with a 3.6-inch display.

Design and materials

The new Motorola razr 50 are available in bright colors and premium vegan material finishes. The razr 50 ultra is offered in Midnight Blue, Spring Green and Peach Fuzz, the Pantone color of the year 2024. Additionally, the classic razr Pink Peacock returns. The razr 50, however, is available in Beach Sand, Koala Gray and Spritz Orange. Both devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, making them resistant to drops and scratches, and feature underwater protection up to 1.5 meters submersion for up to 30 minutes.

The redesigned hinge of the Razr 50 allows you to easily open and close your smartphone with just one hand. The internal display is a 6.9-inch pOLED, with a range of Flex View positions for taking hands-free photos or recording videos optimized for social media. The Photo Booth feature, available on both the external and internal cameras, allows you to create collages of four photos ready to be shared.

Cameras with artificial intelligence

The Motorola razr 50 ultra features a 50-megapixel main camera system, with Moto AI Camera and Google Photos capabilities. The 50 mpx telephoto lens offers 2x lossless optical zoom. Among the advanced features based on artificial intelligence we find:

The Razr 50 also features a 50MP camera system with a 13MP Ultra Wide Angle/Macro Vision lens, ideal for artistic shots both up close and at a wider angle.

Hardware and performance

The Razr 50 Ultra is one of the world’s first flip phones with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 mobile platform, offering advanced performance and features such as Magic Composewhich suggests replies to messages, and Photomoji, which turns photos into emojis or stickers. The 4000mAh battery supports 5W reverse charging and 15W wireless charging.

The razr 50 features a 4200mAh battery with 30W TurboPower charging and 15W wireless charging. The 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor ensures power efficiency and high performance, enhancing AI-based tasks and supporting Motorcycle ecosystem.

Software and AI

Motorola’s software platform, Hello UX, offers a personalized user experience, advanced connectivity and security. New Moto AI features, arriving in the coming weeks, include:

  • Catch Me Up: summarizes the main news and personal communications.

  • Pay Attention: records and transcribes conversations.

  • Remember This: Automatically capture and store moments and information.

Direct access to Google Photos from your external display lets you share, view, delete, or favorite images and videos instantly. A dedicated Spotify panel lets you skip songs, while a Bose panel makes it easy to control Bose earbuds and headphones. New customization options like Style Sync And Magic Canvas allow users to create wallpapers that match their outfit or based on a text prompt.
