The money from the single and universal allowance for children in March will be credited to the beneficiaries between Thursday 19th and Friday 20th, with a little delay compared to usual for those who submitted the application for the financial contribution only last month (but in any case by March 31st). However, it is possible that this month the amount arriving will not correspond to what is expected: in some cases it will be higher, in others it will be lower.
Less money if…
A quick premise: to receive the single allowance based on your income, it was necessary to present the updated ISEE by February 28th. Those who have not done so will have a bad “surprise” in March, because the minimum amount will be credited: 58.30 euros for minor dependent children and 29.10 euros for adult ones. It doesn’t mean it will be like this until December. It can be remedied immediately, because there is still time to get in order and send the INPS information on the ISEE updated until June 30th. At that point the check will be recalculated in the following months.
For those who have already sent an updated ISEE by the end of February, two possibilities open up. If the income indicator is higher than last year, it is possible that the amount of the check in March will be lower. If the ISEE is lower, it is possible that the amount will be higher.
Revaluation
The March amount is also affected by the 1.4% revaluation of the allowance, based on the inflation calculated by Istat for 2026. The accounts should already be in order by February, but the adjustments relating to the January month will arrive now. With the arrears, therefore.
How it works
The single and universal allowance is the main public economic support in Italy for families with dependent children. Since 2022 it has now replaced and incorporated the other bonuses for parents and family allowances: today it is only compatible with the nursery bonus, with the cash measures in favor of dependent children provided by the regions, autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano and local authorities and with the new bonus for mothers.
It is awarded for each child up to the age of 18 or up to 21, if certain conditions are met (study requirements, internship or income not exceeding 8 thousand euros), while it is awarded without age limits for disabled children. Even if its value is linked to the ISEE and the age and number of children, it is also due – at least in its minimum amount – with an ISEE higher than the maximum threshold revalued annually, 46,582.71 euros for 2026.
The final amount due for each child depends above all on the indicator of the equivalent economic situation. There are different components of the check which, added together, arrive at the final figure. There is a progressive variable quota in relation to the ISEE thresholds reevaluated annually (from a maximum of 203.8 euros for each minor child with an ISEE of up to 17,468.51 euros to a minimum of 58.3 euros for each minor child in the absence of an ISEE or with an ISEE equal to or greater than 46,582.71 euros). The amounts due for each child may be increased in the case of families with more than two children, mothers under 21 years of age, disabled children, children less than one year old, children between the first and third years of age who are part of families with three or more children.
The check is paid by crediting a bank or postal account, a savings account with an IBAN code, a credit or debit card with an IBAN code, or a bank transfer to the post office counter.
