A man was arrested by Amtrak police, the national railway company, after stabbing six people at the Penn station subway stop in New York. The attack occurred on the Italian night of 8 June. The attack occurred a few meters from Madison Square Garden, the stadium where Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs will be played at 8.30pm (local time). US President Donald Trump is expected.
The aggression
“I have been made aware of the horrific stabbing at Penn Station. Based on current information, six people have been stabbed and the alleged perpetrator is in custody following a rapid response by the Amtrak Police Department,” New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani wrote on social media. Only one of the injured reported serious injuries.
“My heart goes out to all those who were injured, their loved ones and all those shaken by this unacceptable violence. I wish each of the victims a complete and rapid recovery”, continued the mayor, pointing out that the attack did not cause any disruption to railway traffic.
Mark Levine, the city auditor, suggested that the shooter suffered from mental health problems: “Many important questions arise about whether this suspect escaped the care of an all-too-permeable mental health system.”
