The last weekend of September brings price increases. From tomorrow, Saturday 26th, increases in the price of diesel are foreseeable because, as established by the decree of ten days ago, the discount on excise duties will be halved. For Codacons, a full tank of diesel “will cost 3 euros more on roads and motorways” and the government is calling the companies operating in the refining sector, but the summit will be on 8 October.
“Halved” discount
Let’s go in order. Today, 25 September, according to data collected by the Observatory on fuel prices, the average price in “self service” mode along the road network is 2.154 euros per liter for petrol and 2.338 euros per liter for diesel, the same levels as yesterday. On the motorway network, however, the average self-service price is 2.247 euros per liter for petrol (slightly higher than yesterday’s 2.245 euros) and 2.421 euros per liter for diesel (from 2.419 yesterday).
The discount in force today on diesel excise duties is currently equal (including VAT) to 12.2 cents per litre. However, as a result of the latest legislative decree on excise duties and car tax, from tomorrow until 5 October it will drop to 6.1 cents.
Eni’s move on fuel prices: maximum ceiling of 1.99 euros for petrol and 2.19 for diesel
Codacons sums things up: “The halving of the excise duty cut will lead to a full tank of diesel costing 3 euros more on roads and motorways, regardless of the price list trend at the pump”. And he explains that “the excise duty rate on diesel used as fuel has risen to 572.90 euros per 1,000 liters from 18 to 25 September 2026, and will undergo a new increase to 622.90 euros per 1,000 liters from tomorrow 26 September until 5 October 2026. The tax discount of 12.2 euro cents per liter currently in force will therefore halved starting tomorrow, with the cut on the price at the pump which, also considering VAT, will drop to 6.1 cents. For motorists this is a net increase from 3.05 euros to full, but if we consider the effect of the entire decree effective on 18 September, the impact is 5.45 euros more to full. From 6 October motorists will then have to say goodbye to the pre-determined excise duty discount, because from that date the excise duty mechanism will come into effect. furniture”.
The summit on 8 October
Meanwhile, the Minister of Business, Adolfo Urso, and the Minister of the Environment and Energy Safety, Gilberto Pichetto, have called the companies operating in the refining and production of goods and derivative products sector together for Thursday 8 October. The aim is to evaluate together “how they can increase the production of the main products to mitigate the effects of the current international scenario on the country’s supply”.
In addition to Unem (Energy Union for Mobility), representatives of Sonatrach Socar-IP, Iplom, KPI, Alma Petroli, Ludoil/Isab, Eni, Saras and Innovhub were invited to participate.
