An 85-year-old man, Chris Baghsarian, was mistakenly kidnapped by a gang of criminals while he was at his home in the suburb of North Ryde in Sydney, Australia. The elderly man, victim of mistaken identity, was picked up by three men who broke into his home last Friday and then took him away by force.
The man kidnapped by mistake
According to the national broadcaster ABC, the kidnappers wanted to kidnap an individual linked to the Alameddine criminal network active in the western districts of the city. The Australian police launched an appeal to the criminals, urging them to free the 85-year-old as soon as possible: “Baghsarian is not involved in any criminal network, however – explained police commander Andrew Marks -. They took Mr Baghsarian while he was at home, in his bedroom in the family home, put him in a car and took him away to a place we don’t know, we believe one thousand percent that Mr Baghsarian was not the intended target. The kidnappers intended to capture a certain person, but they got the wrong one.”
According to the police, the man suffers from some health problems and his family is not rich enough to be able to pay a million-dollar ransom: “The person in question requires daily medical attention and his family is in great anguish. The fact that these criminals have committed such a serious mistake is worrying.” “Inform the police where he is currently located – the appeal concludes – or leave Mr Baghsarian in a shopping centre, in the emergency room or even in a nursing home. We urge you to do so as soon as possible”.
