An unusual noise coming from under the road, then the discovery: inside a manhole there was a caiman. Surprise for some inhabitants of Saquarema, a city in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, in the lake region, a coastal area located east of the famous Brazilian city. The episode occurred on Tuesday 6 October in the Jaconé neighbourhood, where some passers-by spotted the reptile after hearing noises coming from the drainage system.
An “unusual meeting” ended up on social networks
The animal was inside a manhole for water drainage. A decidedly unusual presence in the eyes of those traveling along that stretch of the urban area: some people stopped and filmed the scene with their cell phones. The images were then shared on social media, documenting the discovery and the intervention of the officers.
The Environmental Guard was called to the scene. According to the news report RJ Records and picked up by the news portal UOLthe operators recovered the caiman and subsequently returned it to its natural habitat.
It is not the first time that the inhabitants of Saquarema have come across one of these reptiles on the streets of the city. On July 28, another specimen was spotted in the Vilatur neighborhood. In that case the caiman was wandering along a road and the residents had notified the Environmental Guard, who intervened to retrieve it.
