So there are forty-seven Heads of State, but how many people?
As previously mentioned, Grover Clevelandelected twice non-consecutively, in 1884 and 1892, is listed as both the twenty-second and twenty-fourth holder of executive power, making the current President actually the forty-fifth person in office.
That being the case, the forty-seventh inhabitant of the Mansion will be the forty-sixth person only if he prevails Kamala Harris. Should he instead get back in the saddle Donald Trumpthe elected representatives would remain forty-five and the tycoon – the forty-fourth person – would be listed, as the winner in 2016, as the forty-fifth and, as renamed in 2024, precisely the forty-seventh subject.
In the text, I use the term Executive Mansion in place of the White House because George Washington did not set foot in the latter which was inaugurated by his successor John Adams.
