Violent clashes broke out in Jernta during a manifestation of thousands of students against the parliamentary allowances. The demonstrators tried to reach Parliament to protest an inhabitation allowance of 50 million rupees (about 3,075 dollars) monthly received from 580 deputies since September 2024. The measure is considered unjust in a context of economic crisis spread among the population.
