"You killed our children": Jacques and Jessica Moretti attacked and insulted by the families of the Crans-Montana victims

Moments of tension before the interrogation of Jessica Moretti. The relatives of the victims of the Crans-Montana massacre attacked Jacques and Jessica Moretti near the university hall where the hearing is taking place, in Sion, Switzerland.

The clash on the street

The turmoil, as reported by the broadcaster RTS, took place today morning, Thursday 12 February: the two suspects, owners of the “Le Constellation” club where 40 people lost their lives on New Year’s Eve, arrived escorted by the police and accompanied by their lawyers, but the situation got out of hand first near the entrance of the building, when the victims’ families and the Moretti couple came into contact.

“You killed our children”

“You killed our children”, some relatives shouted upon their arrival, then the pushing and some insults began. In the images shown by Mattino 5, the voice of a woman can be heard addressing the Morettis: “Where is my son?”, “You will pay dearly, murderers”. While another male voice shouts: “Take responsibility.” Cries dictated by pain for the young lives lost in that terrible fire: “Money is not enough, children’s lives cannot be bought. Pay, take responsibility. You will have it on your conscience”.

Moretti’s reply

A woman also had an exchange of words with Moretti, accusing him of being “the mafia”. In the turmoil the owner of the place replied: “I am a worker” – When the desperate mother asked him: “Where is my son? How do you sleep? How do you eat? How do you breathe? Where is my son?”. Moretti replied: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, we will take our responsibilities, we are here for justice.” The couple managed to enter the building, but only with the help of the police who made the victims’ families leave.

“Heartless People”

Michel Pidoux, father of 17-year-old Tristan, who died in the fire, expressed his regret after the verbal clash he had with the Morettis: “They say that Cyanne is to blame, that the DJ is to blame, that the Municipality is to blame, but it’s not their fault at all, just words and words, these people don’t have the heart, only the heart of money. Jacques told us that he will take his blame, but he doesn’t take anything, just words. When he goes inside (into the classroom of the interrogation ed.) he doesn’t speak anymore, he says it’s everyone’s fault except his and his wife.”

“We didn’t expect physical aggression”

Nicola Meier, lawyer for the Moretti couple, commented on what happened during a pause in the interrogation: “They were the ones who wanted to meet the families of the victims, they always said that they wanted to listen and explain themselves to the families of the victims so that they can express themselves but this is not an explanation, it was an attack, you saw it, there was a physical overflow; we didn’t expect that the police wouldn’t be there.”
