Goodbye old biogas: 113 million ready to transform 15 plants in Northern and Central Italy

A 113 million euro loan will support the conversion of 15 energy production plants in Northern and Central Italy to biomethane. The operation was structured by Bionext Infrastructure, the Italian platform dedicated to renewable gases controlled by the Aberdeen investment fund. The resources were provided by a pool of banks made up of BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole Cib and Smbc, we read in a note.

The reconversion of the plants

The funds will be used to transform the currently operational sites, which currently produce biogas, into plants capable of generating 100 percent renewable biomethane. The company was founded in 2023 precisely with the aim of managing this technological transition. The production of the plants will be supported by an incentive system lasting 15 years, an element that guarantees economic stability to the industrial reconversion project of the platform.

The objectives and energy security

The initiative is part of the plan to enhance biomethane production envisaged by national and European objectives. In addition to consolidating the current structure, the financial package will serve to support the group’s future growth plans. According to what was communicated by the company, the investment aims to respond to the needs of energy transition and strengthen the security of supplies through the development of internal renewable sources.
