Ukrainian drones over St. Petersburg on the opening day of the economic forum

This morning, the opening day of the traditional Economic Forum which brings together the President of the Russian Federation Valdimir Putin and numerous Russian leaders in St. Petersburg, some Ukrainian drones hit energy and military sites. The largest oil refining complex in north-western Russia, the JSC “Petersburg Oil Terminal”, would be on fire. According to the Ukrainian army, the port of Kronstadt was also hit.

About 20,000 guests from 130 countries are expected to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an annual three-day event that was once Russia’s main rendezvous for attracting Western investors and companies. These attacks follow a series of Russian missile and drone launches that left 23 dead across Ukraine.

The city’s Russian governor, Alexander Beglov, said ‘several’ infrastructure had been damaged but that there were no casualties in the attack, which Ukrainian officials said was intended to disrupt the forum where Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to give a speech on Friday.
