"Happy birthday", Putin and Zelensky wish Trump his 80th birthday: after Iran it's Ukraine's turn

“Happy birthday mister President”. They certainly don’t have the charm of the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe, but the wishes of Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin will still have satisfied the President of the United States Donald Trump. The Ukrainian and Russian counterparts in fact telephoned the tycoon for his 80th birthday, an anniversary which fell on June 14th. The congratulations were an opportunity to talk about the conflict in Ukraine now that the war in Iran seems to be coming to an end.

Zelensky: “A very positive conversation”

“I just had a great conversation with the President of the United States. I congratulated Trump on his birthday and we had a pretty in-depth discussion on many key issues – peace, of course, was among them,” Zelensky said on his official accounts.

“I wished President Trump every success, especially in his efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. I also thanked him for all the support America is providing to Ukraine, and it is important to remember with gratitude every phase of that support – from the Javelins to the Patriots,” the Ukrainian president added. Who “informed the President of the latest developments on the battlefield and how our position has been strengthened.” “We agreed to delve deeper into this topic during our meeting at the G7 summit. We have some good ideas that could help promote peace and protect lives,” Zelensky concluded.

In a video following the publication of his post, the Ukrainian leader goes into a little more detail about the conversation he had with Trump. “His remarks were absolutely spot on, especially regarding our Crimea: it was Russia’s occupation of Crimea that started it all, and if there had been strong leadership at the time, this war simply would not have happened,” Zelensky notes, referring to Barack Obama.

“Witkoff and Kushner will return to Moscow soon”

Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first world leader to contact Trump for well wishes. The telephone conversation between the two lasted about 55 minutes: it was a frank and cordial conversation, they report from Washington. “The conversation focused on the situation regarding the memorandum of understanding being drafted between the United States and Iran. Donald Trump said that an agreement is close,” Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

But there was also talk of the war in Ukraine. In fact, as Ushakov himself stated, “it was agreed that the special envoys of the President of the United States, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, currently working on the Iranian dossier, will soon return to Russia”. The spokesperson also renewed the invitation to Zelensky to the Kremlin: “If the head of the Kiev regime returns to make overtures regarding a possible meeting with the Russian leader, then, as previously said, if he wants a meeting, come to Moscow.”
