A new renaming. After the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario (now the Gulf of America and Lake America), US President Donald Trump plans to rename the Strait of Hormuz. The tycoon launched his proposal, as a provocation, on his social network Truth.
The Trump Strait
“Now that it is under the control of the United States, should we change the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Trump???”, the president asks his followers, more than 13 million. “Just like America itself, it would be hotter than ever!”, adds the tycoon.
The situation in Hormuz
Since signing the memorandum of understanding in June, tensions between the United States and Iran have only increased. From mutual accusations we moved on to actual attacks and the Strait of Hormuz once again lit up with American offensives. Washington carried out some raids on the Iranian coasts to dismantle the reconstruction of some plants and radio stations. In response, Tehran launched attacks against US bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq.
“Even governments in the region traditionally aligned with Washington now recognize that the United States is the main source of regional instability,” said the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The latter met with the head of the Hamas Islamic Relations Department, Basem Naim. Ghalibaf reiterated that Tehran “does not reject negotiations” which are “an instrument of struggle”, and that the United States “must respect its commitments” set out in the memorandum of understanding.
