The extension of the excise duty cut on diesel expires on 5 September. This means two things: higher prices on the horizon and little time for the government to find a solution. From Palazzo Chigi they were clear: no more generalized “discounts”. The path is that of “selective” measures. However, a concrete meaning must be given to this formula. The hypothesis of aid linked to the ISEE is the most popular, but Salvini doesn’t like it. The deputy prime minister adds fuel to the fire and relaunches: “The ISEE mechanism must be rethought”. Reason? It helps that they are “always the same and rarely Italian”.
The fuel discount
Let’s go step by step. As regards the measures to mitigate the high cost of fuel, Salvini asks “that truck drivers, farmers, fishermen and commercial agents also be included in the protections. We ask that not only employees be supported, it would be a mistake to exclude self-employed workers and VAT numbers”. If the request is granted we will know, logically, on September 5th.
“Isee always rewards the same ones”
Salvini goes further and combines the fuel theme with that of ISEE. “I add a reflection of mine, which we will carry forward in the budget law: rethinking the ISEE excludes a large part of the population from any contribution, they always go to the same ones and they are rarely Italian. I hope that contributions for the fuel discount do not only evaluate the ISEE, otherwise the usual ones will always be rewarded”.
The ISEE, we remember, is the indicator of the equivalent economic situation and is the official tool used in Italy to measure the wealth and economic condition of a family unit. It examines three main elements of the family: the incomes of all members, the movable assets and the composition of the family unit (number of people, presence of children or people with disabilities) using an equivalence scale.
The ISEE certificate is used to request and obtain subsidized social benefits, subsidies or discounts. The single and universal allowance for children, the nursery bonus, reductions for canteens or school fees, social bonuses for bills are among the aid linked to the ISEE.
