Ice, the US federal agency against illegal immigration, is once again causing fear. An officer, during the arrest of a man in Manhattan (New York), fired several shots, risking injuring the five-year-old child who was in the car with the suspect. Mayor Zohran Mamdani: “Unacceptable”.
The episode
The shooting took place on the afternoon of October 9, New York local time. Ice fired several shots at a Dominican man in his car in the Marble Hill area of northern Manhattan. It is not yet clear why the shots were fired, the federal agency only stated that the operation involved the arrest of the man with a criminal record for aggravated theft.
Mayor Mamdani: “I called Trump”
The mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani criticized Ice in very harsh tones: “This is an unacceptable situation and an extraordinary gravity. I called the President”, he wrote in a post on social media. “When we speak, I will demand an end to all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities,” he added.
I am angry tonight.
Because today ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car.
ICE makes this city less safe.
We want them out. Now. https://t.co/ZizKB0OP7S

Mamdani expressed his solidarity with the arrested citizen: “Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.” Finally, he concluded: “Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE out of our streets. Get ICE away from our children. Let’s abolish ICE.”
